Former Miss America Shares Her Story of Hope

Dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect, Prevent Child Abuse Indiana, a Division of The Villages, presents the 2009 Breaking the Cycle Mini Conference, Tuesday, March 31. This year's line-up includes a wide variety of educational topics, dynamic speakers and valuable information on effective prevention strategies and programs.

Guest speaker, Marilyn Van Derbur, former Miss America and author of Miss America by Day, will share her story of hope and survival. Marilyn’s worst nightmare came true when she was 53 years old. A newspaper reporter learned she was an incest survivor and the story hit the front page of The Denver Post. When People magazine put her picture on the cover, there was a national outpouring from survivors who turned to her for help and support. She opened the door for tens of thousands of sexual abuse survivors to also speak the words, many for the first time.
