• During the month of April, the council recognized National Child Abuse Prevention Month by having a court house display, Mayor Proclamation, Art Contest for High School students and a Candlelight Vigil held at Peru High School. This year our winner for the Tom Gustin Award was Carol Whybrew. Carol was recognized for being an advocate for children and families. A crib was donated in her name to Healthy Families to be given to a family in need. To raise awareness, the three area schools were provided with activity calendars, stickers for the younger students, bookmarks on self-esteem for Junior High School students and incents for the High School students. The Council also held its annual “Lifesaver Day during the month and information about abuse and neglect was given out at local businesses.
• We are partnering with Domestic Violence Coalition, Domestic Violence Shelter, and local coordinating council. We continue to be a monetary resource for Healthy Families as well as The Parenting Program.
We are only one without each other and it is only working together that we can make a difference…Thank you for showing your love and commitment to our families in Miami County.
Meetings are held the 1st Wednesday of each month.
