Kids on the Block: We bring approved, field-tested, entertaining scripts and large, colorful puppets into school classrooms to teach young children about a variety of issues that may affect their safety or well-being. Script topics include: physical abuse and neglect; sexual abuse; personal, stranger/computer safety; resisting negative peer pressure; non-violent conflict resolution; bullying and school safety; impacts of prejudice and stereotyping and surviving parent’s divorce. Teen volunteers, who deliver the program, rehearse weekly and perform in local schools throughout the school year. Parents of young children receive packets of child safety, positive parenting and prevention literature directly from their children who have viewed the performances. In 2007, the program reached 1,264 children and 210 adults via 21 performances (96 scripts) at 12 school sites in Bartholomew County. In 2009, we are serving Jennings County as well.

Community Education and Awareness: This program keeps the community focused on the critical needs for safety and nurturance of all children and stimulates positive changes in attitudes and behaviors, which will affect both current and future generations. This program provides child safety, prevention and parenting literature for parents delivered through local child and family serving agencies, medical offices, home visit programs, and at community fairs, festivals and events. This program also provides training to parents, providers, and professionals on positive parenting techniques, signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect, laws and reporting requirements. We also provide special activities and events, especially during April Child Abuse Prevent and Awareness Month.

Meetings are held the 2nd Monday every other month.
